By four feet … two feet … or no feet. You choose how you’d like to explore Cochamó and the surrounding areas – and we’ll make it happen!
HORSEBACK TREKS
As in much of northern Patagonia, via horseback is probably the best way to travel and traverse this varied landscape. The mountainous terrain; the numerous waterfalls and streams and rivers; densely grown rainforest trails; and sometimes rainy days are effortlessly handled by local criollo horses, who take travelers along centuries-old pathways.
campo aventura’s signature guided horse-back treks take you between our two lodges – the sea-level Riverside Lodge, and the Mountainside Lodge in a high Andean Valley – as well as beyond. The trails traverse endangered temperate rainforest and Andean homesteads, allowing you to experience wider vistas, mountain hospitality, and nature at its most pristine.
The horseback trails range from one-day rides to expeditions of 7 – 10 days or more. All are designed to suit the absolute beginner, without any previous riding experience – while also appealing to the seasoned equestrian. The longer trails involve some hiking as well as sleeping out under the stars.
Our criollo mounts are sturdy, calm mountain creatures. They know the trail as well as the huasos and guides! With them, you will cross ice-cold streams and rivers, negotiate rocky paths, and reach places in the towering green Valdivian rainforest where very few outsiders ever venture.
HIKING
For walkers, hikers, and those who’d just like to relax at either of our lodges, we have designed an all-new array of guided or self-guided hiking stays, some in combination with a horseback trek. These packages let you explore the river valley and the mountains of la Junta at your own pace and under your own steam – but without the heavy backpacks and freeze-dried foods!
On the one-day hikes, we supply a picnic lunch and snacks – and you can choose the option of being accompanied by one of our team, or going it alone with directions. A number of one-day hikes depart from our Riverside and Mountainside Lodges. They range from easy to moderate to challenging – and each of them rewards the hiker with beauty, solitude, and majesty.
For the multi-day trips – Rainforest Ramble and Beyond the Timberline, for example – we take care of transporting your belongings and all other supplies, so you can focus all your energies on the walk and the views. Typically, a guide will accompany you – although we also consider self-guided options for those with requisite experience and fitness levels.
In addition to our specialized hiking packages noted in this section, all our longer horseback trails – Ride & Trek, Frontier Trail, and Gaucho Trail – are also available as hiking options, with or without packhorse support.
If you are interested, talk to us. We can outfit and provide all the supplies, camping equipment, a guide, a gaucho and a packhorse as needed. We will be happy to design an itinerary that gets you out there – within your timeframe and your budget!
WATER ACTIVITIES
Situated by river and ocean fjord, campo aventura also offers visitors the opportunity to explore these magnificent water settings – through half-day or full day boating, kayaking, rafting and fishing trips. Multi-day kayak trips along the fjord and the serrated shores of Pumalin Park can be organized on request.
You can combine one – or more – of these water activities with an existing horseback trek or hiking package with Campo Aventura.
For those of you who just can’t decide what you’d like to do – take a look at the “Paddles, Saddles, Pedals, & More…” program! It is a multi-activity program based at our lodges that lets you engage in a variety of activities.
